Child Sponsorship Scheme Progress

We have been working hard on gathering information on more children registered with HSB, so that they will have profiles set up on the Child Sponsorship Scheme. This will mean that a further 10 children will now have the opportunity to be sponsored!

As well as this, we were able to visit one of the families at home. The daughter, Rachidatou has epilepsy and lives with her family in the outskirts of Ouagadougou. Their home is small and due to cracks in the walls and holes in the roof, it regularly floods when it rains. Despite all of this, the family were very welcoming and incredibly grateful for the support that they received. The contrast of living conditions between central Ouaga and the outskirts is about as diverse as it can get, it feels like they are two different worlds apart.  However, one thing I noticed was that despite such disparities, the people of Ouaga are all equally as welcoming and friendly.  It was an eye-opening experience and one I am grateful to have been part of.

That same week, we were also invited to Georgette's house for the celebration of her daughter's wedding at the weekend. Georgette is the administrative secretary at International Sevice Burkina and  we were very glad to take part in the celebration of Giselle's wedding. We were treated to traditional food and dancing. Giselle soon arrived, accompanied by her newly wed, as well as a small parade of family members and neighbours singing and dancing as they approached the house.  Many of us took part in the dancing which was very fun and entertaining! It was a great experience and we were, as always, welcomed in the most friendly manner!
