On your marks, get set... go!

Hello from HSB Cohort 9! It's been a busy week here at HSB headquarters; we've had a lot to do and to learn, as aside from our team leader, Ali, we're all new volunteers. The UK Volunteers arrived here in Burkina on Saturday 5th and were introduced to the national volunteers on Monday 7th for training. We're all raring to begin and after a week of catching up with handover notes we're ready to hit full throttle! I'll hand over to the volunteers now for their personal introductions:

Hello! My name is Blake Broadley, I am 19 and I come from Kingston upon Hull in England where I work as a Personal Assistant for people with disabilities. I am looking forward to working with HSB to combat discrimination towards people with disabilities in Burkina and helping to build capacities within the organisation through lessons in English and ICT. I look forward to working with a team with similar goals to work towards my own personal development with skills I can take back home and hopefully help me advance in understanding disability attitude in different countries and how HSB provide care for them.
My name is Emma Handley. I am 21 years old and from Preston. I recently graduated from Leeds Metropolitan University with a degree in Sports Coaching Bsc Hons. I am looking forward to being a part of a different culture along with the many new ways I could develop through being a part of the project by learning new skills while working alongside different people and also being able to share my thoughts and skills with people in Burkina Faso. Mainly, I can’t wait to get stuck in and be a part of the development of Handicap Solidaire Burkina and contributing to development in Burkina Faso.
Hello, I’m Flic, (or Felicité in French!) a British Volunteer from Kent. I’ve just spent a year studying in Paris so am looking forward to using my newly acquired French as part of the HSB team. We’ve only been here a few days but have already learnt an enormous amount from the very welcoming Burkinabe national volunteers. I’m looking forward to working with the children at Espace Bambino who all seem to have bundles of energy and I am excited about the opportunity to make a lasting impact in the Ouaga community through disability awareness days.
